“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn
It seems so easy to be healthy in today’s age. If you spend $200 a week on superfoods at Whole Foods and mix in a yoga class every once in a while, you’ll be invincible.
Everything is marketed as “healthy” but do you know what’s actually in the food you eat?
I learned from Nicole Zohdi how important this is.
Nicole is the Founder of Naturally Nik and an old friend of mine. We played tennis together everyday in middle school.
She was the “go-to-girl” amongst her friends about fitness. She was a kickboxing instructor, training for a bodybuilding competition and in what she thought was the best shape of her life.
To keep up with her regimen, she needed to hit certain macronutrient targets: eg, she needed to eat a certain amount of protein, carbohydrates and fat in a given day.
The easiest way to hit this is to mix in a few name-brand protein bars in daily. High in protein, low in carbs and sugar.
What she didn’t realize was what was actually in those bars. Her diet caused her to get an autoimmune disease to the point where she could barely stand up.
This caused her to do some digging in the market.
If you look at the back of the protein bar or the granola you’re eating, you probably can’t even pronounce 70% of the ingredients. That’s how you know something is wrong.
“To keep the body in good health is a duty… Otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” – Buddha
She is on a mission to educate people on what’s going on in the market.
She sticks to a FODMAP diet.
She inspired me to reevaluate my health and look for obstacles I can turn into opportunities.
I’m making a few 2 mm shifts.
I threw out all of my protein bars. I’m going to do more research on what I put in my body.
I’m not looking to be a bodybuilding or athletic freak but I do have ambitious goals for my career, finances, and relationships that require high levels of energy to tackle them.
I’m fired up for whatever April has in store for me.
