How To Separate From The Pack

How you do anything is how you do everything.

That quote says a lot about life and how to succeed. It means having an attention to detail — which is something I’m not naturally good at. It means doing your best on every single project, whether you like it or not. It means having discipline.

This is the quote I think of when breaking down our recent conversation with former NFL Pro, Jed Collins. Jed was not a Super Bowl Champ, MVP or even a Pro-Bowler in the NFL. In fact, he went undrafted and bounced from team to team for several years. He wasn’t sure when his next paycheck would come some months.

But he turned that desperation into intensity. He brought his absolute best every single day. Because if he didn’t, he was gone.

He finally landed on the New Orleans Saints the year after they won the Super Bowl. The team was stacked with Pro-Bowlers, including Drew Brees. Jed went on to be the #1 Fullback in the league that year.

When we asked what was different about the Saints organization than other, less successful ones that he played for, Jed had a simple response — it’s how they do the little things. They are willing to take chances on undrafted free agents like Jed. They are willing to put in more time to watching film. It’s in their culture to do that.

Take the mundane task and make it a masterpiece.
